In a two-hour program, young people learn about trials, prepare a case, and roleplay lawyers, witnesses, judges, and jurors in a mock trial. By selecting cases involving topics of direct interest to youth--guns in schools, drugs in a backpack, a bike accident, vandalism, sexual harassment, etc.--participants also learn about specific areas of law. This program involves a community resource person (laywer, judge) who guides the preparation of the mock trial and assists the student judges.
