The American Bar Association Division for Public Education has joined the Newspaper in Education Program to provide a series of four articles to be used in schools to help youngsters understand the importance of speaking up for democracy and diversity.

• Focusing on the importance of voting, the topics are:
• Voting: A Political Right of Citizenship, emphasizing the country's steady march towards making the vote available to citizens 18 and older; 
• Voting Rights Act of 1965, emphasizing this key legislation that made voting a reality for millions who had been disenfranchised; 
• The 26 Amendment, extending the vote to young persons 18-21; and 
• Voter Registration, emphasizing recent changes that have established national standards for registration and made registering easier.

The series was designed to be published as four, quarter-page newspaper instructional features about democracy, diversity and voting during April, with the final installment on or near May 1.
